Found this pencil drawing from two months ago, and decided to practice with my brand new Daniel Smith watercolors. ^_^

Alas, the drawing was done on bristol board, and as I learned recently bristol doesn't support watercolors that well. The result came out interesting, I suppose, but I'll stick to other paper in the future.

The thing that bugs me most is the light glare on her left breast. I just don't think my dubious light source(s) would make an effect like that. But it was fun to play with the paint! Wish I had more pre-drawn images around, so I could just sit down and color when the mood strikes me. :D

Scarab, of course, is a character from David Mack's superb title Kabuki.

This makes me think of something from Cirque de Soleil and this is really o_o captivating!

I love the movement here, and the gorgeously artsy violence. What's Kabuki like, she said, spamming and spamming and spamming...

have you read any? I must say it's been a really long time for me, I wonder how it would hold up. Back in the day it was an excellent read - original and haunting, psychological, and somehow real story with fascinating art. Haven't seen anything like it.

I also liked Kabuki Agents: Scarab for the amazing line art by Rick Mays.

I haven't even seen it in any of the comic shops I've frequented! I'm reasonably sure I'd remember something like that. Well, I'll keep looking -- it *sounds* like something right up my alley.

Love the pose and the positioning and style of the hands. Would love to see a final polished rendition of this pic. Very graceful, thank you for sharing it.

thank you very much for the kind words! This piece was done for practice only, but I hope to someday revisit Kabuki characters and do them justice. :)
